MyBio

Simon’s artistic leaning is evident throughout his life’s endeavours and work history, which encompasses local government, business, the arts, trade, and design.

Simon was born in Adelaide and his early school years included tutoring by noted South Australian Artist Ruth Tuck and many art orientated holiday programs.

High School art subjects were followed by an incomplete degree in Town Planning and working in this field at local government level until he left to pursue a business career in the manufacture and retail of headwear. Starting the business from scratch Simon achieved over 20 registered designs of hats and saw his millinery creations atop many a notable customer, his best known design being the revolutionary hard hat brim with flap.  After 18 years in this profession Simon and his wife sold the business to explore the Australian landscape. Extensive travel throughout Australia led them to settle in the inspiring surrounds of Cairns, Far North Queensland where Simon has pursued a ‘new’ career as a professional artist and artsworker.

Well known locally, he is active with regional art groups and community art programmes, is director of Heads Up-Arts (Local Artist Run Initiative) and exhibits his paintings and multi-media works regularly.

Simon now holds a Diploma of Visual Art, a Certificate in Public Art and a degree in Creative Industries (with Academic Medal).
